The first impression of a home doesn’t always come through the eyes. Sometimes it’s the clean freshness of the hallway, the warm touch of the living room at the end of the afternoon or a floral note that makes the morning feel lighter. Choosing a long-lasting home fragrance is precisely about creating that sense of welcome without it feeling intrusive, artificial or identical in every room.
At Luzaris we experience this every day in our shop on Carrer de Boters 11, in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, where Mediterranean light slips between centuries-old stones and scent is part of how we welcome people. We were born where the sun meets the sea, and that same idea — warmth, light and calm — is what we bring to our home fragrances.
The key isn’t to look for the most intense scent, but for the one that speaks to your space, your routines and the atmosphere you want to live in. A well-chosen ambient fragrance is noticed when you walk in, keeps you company without overwhelming and leaves a pleasant trace even when it isn’t in the foreground.
What makes a long-lasting home fragrance last longer
How long an ambient scent lasts depends on its composition, but also on the format and where you use it. A sunny room, an open window or a nearby heat source change the way the notes spread and evaporate. That’s why the same scent can feel different in a quiet bedroom than in a large, bright living room.
Compositions with woods, amber, musks, resins or spices tend to bring more depth and a longer presence. Floral and clean notes shouldn’t be ruled out: they’re beautiful at home, especially when they rest on a soft, enveloping base.
Evolution matters too. A good scent doesn’t just perfume a room all at once: it shifts gently over the hours and settles into a serene base. That evolution makes a space feel cared for rather than heavy. Just as a perfume does on skin, an ambient scent changes with its surroundings, so it’s worth trying it in your own space before deciding.
Choose the intensity for each room
Every room has its own rhythm, and the ideal scent for one doesn’t have to be right for another.
Hallway: a clear, bright welcome
The hallway is the first sentence of your home. Clean, friendly profiles work well here, with enough presence to be noticed when you open the door but without taking over. A reed diffuser is perfect: it works constantly and needs no daily attention.
Living room: a fragrance that keeps you company
We spend hours in the living room talking, reading or entertaining. It can take fuller, warm or woody scents that create a feeling of refuge. A candle lit at dusk adds light and ritual too.
Bedroom: calm with personality
In the bedroom, look for softness: musks, powdery notes or delicate florals. Keep the intensity low, especially if the room is small, and place the diffuser away from the pillow so it blends into the atmosphere.
Bathroom and kitchen: well-measured freshness
The bathroom welcomes clean, light accords that reinforce the feeling of freshness. In the kitchen it’s best to be more subtle: air the room first and scent it after cooking with a touch of room spray, which works instantly and doesn’t compete with food aromas.
Luzaris home scents, by style
Our home collection brings together five scents — Soft, Powder, Jasmine, Amber and Spicy — in three formats: plant-wax scented candle, reed diffuser and room spray. This way you can keep the same olfactory signature throughout your home and simply adjust the intensity. Here are our suggestions:
Clean and serene: hallway, bathroom and bedroom
- Soft reed diffuser: the delicacy of pure cotton and the softness of white musks, for an atmosphere of order, peace and wellbeing.
- Powder reed diffuser: notes of baby powder and soft flowers that fill your home with purity and tranquillity.
- Soft room spray: soft musks and touches of cotton in a spray, ideal for a quick refresh in the bathroom or before guests arrive.
- Powder scented candle: the same clean, powdery freshness, with the warmth of a flame.
Floral and romantic: bedroom and reading corners
- Jasmine reed diffuser: the timeless elegance of jasmine in bloom, with the calm of a spring night.
- Jasmine scented candle: pure notes of jasmine in bloom with light green touches, in handcrafted plant wax.
- Jasmine room spray: the same jasmine in spray form, to refresh a space in seconds.
Warm and enveloping: living room and autumn afternoons
- Amber scented candle: warm, resinous notes that evoke the peace of a golden sunset.
- Amber reed diffuser: a warm, resinous and woody accord for an olfactory signature of absolute comfort.
- Spicy scented candle: inspired by the spice markets of the Mediterranean, with cinnamon, clove and warm wood.
- Spicy reed diffuser: the same spices in a constant format, perfect for a cosy living room.

Format, placement and routine: the balance that makes the difference
There’s no single perfect format for every home. It depends on the size of the room, how long you spend in it and whether you want a continuous presence or a one-off moment.
- Reed diffuser: constant, discreet scent. Place it in a through area, away from radiators and direct sunlight, and flip the reeds now and then to refresh the fragrance.
- Scented candle: creates atmosphere and ritual. Burn it long enough for the wax to melt evenly and always put it out before leaving the room.
- Room spray: instant effect. Spray into the air and onto textiles, never directly on delicate furniture.
How to stop the fragrance from becoming invisible
When we live with a scent, our sense of smell gets used to it and stops noticing it, even though anyone who walks in can smell it perfectly. To avoid this, alternate intensities, let the candle rest for a few days or change scent with the seasons: in spring and summer, clean and floral profiles like Soft or Jasmine feel right; in autumn and winter, the warmth of Amber or Spicy brings a cosier feel.
Cleanliness is part of the experience too. An ambient scent shouldn’t hide odours, but accompany a space that’s already cared for. Air your home daily, wash textiles regularly and store refills away from light and heat, just as you would to keep your opened fragrances at their best.
A home in layers, not in excess
If you want to scent several rooms, avoid completely opposite profiles. It’s more harmonious to keep a common thread and vary the intensity: for example, Amber reeds in the hallway, an Amber candle in the living room and the softness of Soft in the bedroom. The result isn’t an identical scent throughout, but a coherent identity that changes nuance from room to room.
And if you like your home and your skin to speak the same language, look for a perfume from the same olfactory family.
